COVID Counseling: Now a Payable Compliance Risk
Show Notes

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced two new payment initiatives, with one being the use of "counseling" to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

CMS will make payment available to physicians and providers to counsel patients at the time of COVID-19 testing about the importance of self-isolation after they are tested, and prior to the onset of symptoms. However, to get reimbursed for these services, there are protocols to follow, eligible providers to consider, and place-of-service rules. During the next live edition of Talk Ten Tuesdays, Terry Fletcher, nationally recognized professional coder and auditor, will report our lead story.

The live broadcast will also feature these other segments:

  • Tuesday Focus: COVID and Caregiver Parents: With schools opening, healthcare workers face a daunting dilemma as they plan for their children to return to class. The impact to healthcare workers, specifically those who are unable to work remotely while they home-school their children, is challenging, and it’s our Tuesday Focus that will be reported by Tiffany Ferguson.

  • News Desk: Timothy Powell, compliance expert and ICD10monitor national correspondent, will anchor the Talk Ten Tuesdays News Desk.

  • The Coding Report:  Laurie Johnson will report on the recent announcement from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that between August and November is when to expect more cases of a rare illness that causes permanent paralysis and respiratory failure in children – it’s known as acute flaccid myelitis (AFM).

  • TalkBack: Erica Remer, MD, founder and president of Erica Remer, MD, Inc. and Talk Ten Tuesdays co-host, will report on another thought-provoking topic that has captured her attention.
