Promising New Hope for ICD-11
Show Notes Chapter Markers

The World Health Organization (WHO) has released the official version of ICD-11, and the National Committee on Vital Health Statistics (NCVHS), is calling for research to evaluate its use in the U.S.

Reporting the lead story during the next live edition of Talk Ten Tuesdays will be the ICD-11 national correspondent for ICD10monitor, Mary Stanfill, vice president of consulting services for United Audit Systems, Inc. Stanfill will report on promising published research comparing ICD-11 with ICD-10, including early studies exploring the feasibility of replacing the old coding set with the new, noting that the early indications are very promising – and suggesting that America’s healthcare system should invest resources to explore the change. Early ICD-11 content analysis suggests it can represent ICD-10-CM codes much better than ICD-10-CM was able to represent ICD-9-CM codes, at the point the U.S. made that change.

The live broadcast will also feature these other segments:

  • Coding Report: Laurie Johnson, senior healthcare consultant with Revenue Cycle Solutions, LLC, will report on the latest coding news.

  • Tuesday Focus: Public Health Emergency: Nationally recognized physician coder, auditor, educator, and author Terry Fletcher will report on the latest news concerning the COVID-19 public health emergency (PHE).

  • News Desk: Gloryanne Bryant, a member of the ICD10monitor editorial board, will anchor the Talk-Ten-Tuesdays News Desk.

  • Point of View: Susan Gatehouse, a guest cohost who will be substituting for Dr. Erica Remer, will report on payer strategies that should be implemented to mitigate the already long road to payment.
